Warfighter 101: Asian Thunder
The Iranian push toward the Azeri capital of Baku has to go thru the border city of Salyan. As the Azeris and Iranians battle it out, the Russians and Americans both make cameos. Lots of open tank country surrounding a city that hugs a river, and makes for some challenging maneuver
The Iranian offensive leads with their infantry battalion, featuring three robust companies of lightfighters. Supported by two tank companies and a recon squadron, as well as commandos and US-vintage Cobra attack helicopters, the Persian offensive is loaded to bear. Though numerous, the Iranian infantry is not as mobile as their Azeri counterparts.
The Salyan garrison is limited, but the reinforcements arrive quickly, with a mixture of tanks and mechanized infantry. And if the Iranians think that holding Salyan will be easy, the local resistance will beg to differ.

What's in the new game?

3d edition rules, incorporating numerous updates to combat - artillery barrages, counter-assaults, and a new combat table - along with new terrain, clarification of some concepts, and designer's notes, offering insight into the mind of the creator (such as it is...)

Who else is in the game?

The Iranians and Azeris each show up with about 2 battalions. The Salyan resistance puts some new twists on civlians. And an American Stryker company makes a guest appearance.

The map?

The real Azeri city of Salyan - about 20km from the Iranian border - is mapped out in the Warfighter scale of 1 hex = 1km. A complicated corridor of terrain, mixing city and town hexes along a river with limited crossings, runs north-south through a map bounded on the sides with wide-open tank country.
